FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…
…SAVE THE APOSTROPHE THIS NEW YEAR!!!
A cruel revelation: this special time period in the last few weeks of December marks not only the blatant injustice of Christmas, but another thing almost as horrifying: the uncalled-for removal of the apostrophe from its hard-earned, rightful place in the phrase “new year’s”, such as “New Year’s Eve”, “new year’s celebrations”, etc.
Where once proper English was found remains only the crime scenes of the brutal rape of basic grammar: “What are you doing for new years?” “There’s a new years function happening!” Are you really doing something over the course of more than one single year? Does it make any sense to say “What are you doing for 2007, 2008, 2009…etc.?” I didn’t think so either.
So no matter how crunk you’ll be getting at that sick party from the night of December 31st, 2007 to the morning of January 1st, 2008, please do not forget about the poor, innocence comma flying high between “Year” and “s” to spell “Year’s“.
Make it your damn new year’s resolution if you must.

What if one was referring to multiple years?
After all, tonight is the technically the eve of many years to come, but even if it is eve of many years, we would still be referring to that eve as the possession of those years, therefore you still need the apostrophe anyway.
Oh well, Happy New Years’ Eve and I hope that 2008, 2009, and 2010 find you well!
Love it!
