And won’t that be a great day. (As long as I don’t have exams on the 11th.) Eight weeks and a day from now, one of my all-time favourite movies will finally be available in stores for me to purchase, and I can say goodbye to my downloaded DivX version on my notebook.
I saw The Bourne Ultimatum the first day it came out, and damn was it good. Some people really don’t (they got sick watching), but I love the shakiness of the camera during the action sequences, it gives the impression that you’re right there with Bourne throwing punches and kicks at the endless squad of agents sent to neutralize him.
Of all three Bournes, the car chase scene in Ultimatum was by far my favourite (but tagged closely by the Supremacy chase); it’s just so nuts that they can be racing through busy-as-hell Manhattan shooting each other (well, more like Bourne getting shot). Plus, like my cousin said, it’s equally nuts that the film crew was able to block off busy-as-hell Manhattan streets for the movie. And besides…Volkswagen had a fantastic Bourne commercial, probably one of my all-time favourite commercials.
But what I like the most about The Bourne Ultimatum is that [SPOILER WARNING, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET AND YOU'RE PLANNING TO, I SUGGEST YOU SKIP DOWN TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH!] it ties in Supremacy so well. I mean, more than half of the third movie is basically everything in between what happened in the last few minutes of the second movie!!
Now, back to the DVD release. As you’ve hopefully noticed by now, I am friggin’ PUMPED for Ultimatum to be released. (Note: I won’t be purchasing it right when it comes out, because I want to get the new Bourne Files DVD Collection that has all three movies included, which is definitely much cooler than just getting the third movie. But Ultimatum coming out is the first step!) However, I am not so pumped about the look of the DVD cover. Take a look at this:

What the hell is this bullcrap?! Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really cool cover filled with explosions and a built, angry man holding a piece, but if you took away the words, you wouldn’t even realize that it’s actually Bourne! Compare Ultimatum’s cover to the previous two movies:

The first two covers follow the same distinct style, the Bourne style. It’s got the title in white and red, and a scope-like imprint, along with a few scenes from the respective movies blurred into the background. But Ultimatum? It just doesn’t make the cut. Matt Damon has the Mark Wahlberg face on the cover. Marky Mark is cool, but he’s not Bourne; Damon is. So why does Damon not quite look himself? Bad photoshopping, that’s why. And the whole cover is so reminescent of Wahlberg’s Shooter:

Another cool movie, but Bourne is the coolest movie ever, so any cover that’s less than a qualified Bourne cover is a disgrace to the ex-CIA asset. Seriously, it’s so out of place when put with Identity and Supremacy. Universal Studios, please smarten up and turn the Ultimatum cover from a generic action flick to a Bourne film!

We have the first two and I am really glad to know this because it will make a great gift for the hubby. I read the books a long time ago and this is one of the only times when they’ve made a movie from a book that was actually done well.
