Heh, controversial title, eh? That certainly caught your attention; I don’t actually mean that about the title. I figured that before I post more stories of idiot drivers, many of whom are (unfortunately) female and Chinese, I should do a bit of clarification.
First of all, I’m not racist against Chinese people; I myself am Chinese, pure-blood. So don’t think that I’m fueling inaccurate Western stereotypes of Asian drivers; there are no Chinese people who drive on the sidewalk and run down pedestrians. There is only a number of Chinese women who are too scared and/or too incompetent to handle a two- to five-tonne vehicle, due to weakness, wanting to avoid damage to their expensive car, or just plain ol’ fear of driving.
And since I go to Chinese areas quite often, it’s only normal that I write more commonly about experiencing Chinese drivers.
Now don’t think I’m sexist, either, because that’s false as well. You have to understand the whole culture of immigrants from Hong Kong; most families here consist of only a mother and the children, while the father slaves away overseas making an incredible amount of money. So since the husband is not around, the wives are forced to learn to drive in order to get around. Most of them don’t like it, but what choice do they have? So they do the lessons, practice sessions, and are just good enough (according to the Ministry of Transportation) to drive on the road. But the only problem is that Ontarian road laws don’t find any problem in braking at green lights, driving 5-10km/h below the speed limit, or take 749,823,104 to the power of 55 turns in parking in a simple spot…things that many Chinese women do.
But definitely not all Chinese women are inept drivers, not even close. For one, my own mom can outdo even most men.
So let me re-iterate: the sole reason why I’ll often make angry posts against Chinese female drivers is because I encounter them often in Chinese areas, and I tend to be stuck behind or around them on the road (just bad luck, I guess). Chinese women have many talents in many areas, just not behind the wheel for most of them.
