Don’t F— Wit Da Popo
Well, well, well. It’s the start of a new month, and the start of a new era: an era where really fast drivers in Ontario are going to get FUBARed if they fall under the police radar, OFFICIALLY.
Via 680 News,
Toronto – Drivers caught driving 50 kilometres an hour over the posted speed limit will face severe consequences, starting today.
The new law was ushered in after several fatal street-racing crashes this summer.
The new rules would allow police to impound vehicles on the spot and suspend licences for a week.
OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino pointed out that the new law applies to unsafe lane changes, cutting off another vehicle, tailgating and not driving to suit the conditions, such as going over the speed limit in a snowstorm.
Infractions also include “stunt” driving, such as popping wheelies or doing “doughnuts.”
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Cam Woolley said speeding and aggressive driving will be looked at in a different light. “I think people are going to start taking speeding seriously,” he told 680News.
Since 1999, 35 people have been killed in Ontario by street racers. Woolley said he believes these consequences would drive the message home.
Aside from losing their car and licence for seven days, drivers would also face steep fines of between $2,000 and $10,000, six months in jail, or both.
Arguing with police would also carry an additional fine of up to $5,000.
You read that last sentence? Wow, a reminder to self never to drive over 40km/h over the limit, in case I get pulled over by some cop bent on giving me hell.
I’m not necessarily saying that this new law is a bad thing; if anything, it’ll hopefully keep the tools who decide to pull Bournes (and end up the same way, causing mass chaos along the way) off the road, keeping the public safe. But at the same time, it takes away the pleasure from gracefully flying on the incredible straight, two-lane Concession roads north-east of Toronto, because I’ll be too busy looking out for white Impalas.
Quite selfish I may be, but this is my site, after all. However, there is always Grand Theft Auto around to solve my worldly problems: road rage, speeding, driving fancy cars…armed robbery, murder, extortion – no I’m just kidding.

As of yesterday, this would be the difference between getting screwed and getting screwed by a cop.
Update: Twenty-eight unlucky drivers have gotten a first-hand taste of the newfound merciless wrath of the OPP already!

Wow, that is a very steep fine. I got pulled over for speeding a couple of months ago and I was only going 15 mph over the limit. My ticket was only $85 bucks. Oh well.
