Today, as I went off-campus for lunch, something that completely blew my mind occurred at a road intersection. We were waiting at a red light to go straight, and when the light turned green, the driver of the vehicle (it wasn’t me) released the brake pedal. Then out of NOWHERE, some retard (don’t take offense because that girl was severely mentally incapacitated) on a bike zooms RIGHT BY the moving cars, inches away from losing much more than a couple minutes of time waiting for the hand signal to appear. Seriously, it was ten times worse than a driver running a red, although that’s basically what this cyclist did. She was on a friggin’ BICYCLE. And we were in cars weighing TONS, true killing machines. The worst part? Not only was she cutting across us, she was turning INTO our oncoming lane. It was probably one of the biggest “WTF?!” moments of my life. Till now, more than 12 hours after the episode, I still cannot comprehend how someone could be so damn stupid, but at the same time not stupid enough to fail at cycling.

Go downtown Toronto (or any big city for that matter) and the cyclists have guts travelling alongside heavy vehicular traffic. But not one of them would be stupid enough to challenge the strength of solid steel.

If the driver released the brake even one second earlier, I wouldn’t be here writing this post. I would probably still be talking to the police about how that girl tried to cut across moving traffic but hit our car and went flying and twisted her body in unnatural ways, or seeking counseling for the horrors I had witnessed, or perhaps even being interviewed by the judges of the Darwin Awards.

Meeting a human being dumber than a rock is not exactly something to be proud of.
